Donor Spotlight: Emily Eckman

07/06/2018

For Emily Eckman, lending her time, talent and treasure to House of Mercy has become an integral part of her life and who she is as an individual.

Eckman serves as Assistant Vice President of IT at Principal. She and her husband live on a small acreage in Des Moines and enjoy camping, gardening and playing with their two rescue dogs.

“We are passionate about giving back to the community and sharing our blessings,” she said.

She first became connected with House of Mercy through Principal. She served on the House of Mercy board for nine years and chaired the board for two of those years. She has sponsored the House of Mercy Game Show Gala for numerous years and helped the event achieve record-breaking success in 2018.

Eckman has been moved and compelled by how House of Mercy restores hope for those struggling with addiction and trauma.

“I hear testimonials from the mothers that House of Mercy has helped to reconnect and reunite with their children as they address their addiction issues,” she said.

“House of Mercy addresses the issues facing people who have grown up in the cycle of poverty in abusive situations. Seeing that portion of the population get through recovery and become self-sustaining parents and citizens is crucial to the success of our entire community.”
