Donor Spotlight: Norkaitis Family Charities

09/28/2018

The Norkaitis Family Charities has held a deep, generational commitment to Mercy Medical Center, Mercy College of Health Sciences and House of Mercy. The late William and Josephine Norkaitis were committed to serving others; they always gave to those in need in the community long before they became successful through their hard work. Their generosity was a beautiful outpouring of their deep Catholic faith and beautifully exemplified the caring ministry of the Sisters of Mercy.

The Norkaitis’ commitment to Mercy began through William and Josephine’s relationship with Patricia Clare Sullivan, when she served as president of Mercy Medical Center. As their resources grew, so too, did their philanthropic reach.

Upon Josephine’s passing in 2014, it became daughter Florence Burch’s increasing desire to honor her parents through philanthropic legacy gifts. In 2016, the William and Josephine Norkaitis Strategic Gift Fund was established at Mercy Foundation and in 2017, the Josephine Norkaitis Student Success Center at Mercy College of Health Sciences was established.

Other gifts included those to scholarship funds at Mercy College of Health Sciences and the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care Units renovation, helping our most vulnerable young patients.

Through their generosity, Florence and Steve Burch have built and shaped what is important to best honor William and Josephine Norkaitis and their transformational legacy of philanthropy at Mercy.
