Mercy Foundation has received a $250,000 grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to impact care and services for children at Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines.

$250,000 is designated to Mercy Children’s Hospital & Clinics to purchase 45 new bassinets for the Mother/Baby Unit as well as create innovative, new indoor play areas at Mercy’s downtown campus. In addition, House of Mercy will receive a Variety van which will be used to transport client children to needed engagements including medical appointments and educational activities.

Mercy Children’s Hospital & Clinics and the House of Mercy are part of Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines, a nonprofit Catholic health care provider serving Greater Des Moines with remarkable care for thousands annually.

“This generous grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity will help Mercy Children’s Hospital & Clinics continue to provide remarkable Mercy experiences for some of our most vulnerable patients,” said Kathy Goetz, Vice President of Women/Children Services at Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines.

“The bassinets are much needed for our newborns, and the play areas will provide an inclusive place for children of all abilities to learn, rejuvenate and play.”

“A Variety van will help House of Mercy clients and their children participate in family activities and attend appointments while reintegrating back into the community,” said House of Mercy Director Rebecca Peterson.

“Variety – the Children’s Charity displays leadership in our community by helping children who need it the most. We are so pleased to partner with Variety and are grateful for their generosity to our Mercy family,” said Shannon Cofield, President of Mercy Foundation.
