National USDA and White House Representatives Visit MercyOne to Discuss Rural Health Care

09/06/2019

On Friday, Sept. 6,  MercyOne staff met and shared information about the organization’s role in rural health care with national representatives including Nora Stein, program examiner of the Office of Management and Budget from the White House, and Curtis Anders, chief of staff of the USDA Rural Development Rural Utilities Service, who were touring sites across the state to see first-hand the impact of USDA’s grant investments. The USDA awarded a nearly $93,000 Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant to MercyOne Des Moines Foundation, which will be used to provide access to specialty medical services through interactive two-way audio and video technology for MercyOne. The telemedicine services primarily focus on diagnosing and treating patients in outpatient settings, with the goal to improve access to health care for patients and their families in rural communities.
