Donor Spotlight: Sheryl Barnes

09/30/2019

Sheryl BarnesHelping those is need is an annual priority for Sheryl Barnes, Director of Accreditation and Regulatory Services at MercyOne Des Moines. Each year, she gives through MercyOne Des Moines Foundation’s Annual Campaign.

This year’s campaign started Sept. 16 and runs through Oct. 18. Contributions to this campaign are designated to a variety of funds, directly impacting the areas you care about most at MercyOne Des Moines. Sheryl has donated to this campaign for many years.

“I normally will donate towards the area of greatest need, but this year, I decided to contribute to the Employee Relief Fund,” said Sheryl. “I believe that there are situations that occur that put others in times of struggle and you never know when that is going to happen or who it will happen to. For me, that is the area of greatest need, being able to help other MercyOne Des Moines colleagues in their time of need through this fund.”

Since 2000, the Employee Relief Fund has helped more than 1,200 MercyOne Des Moines employees. Over the last 10 years, this fund helps an average of 55 employees a year.

“It makes me feel good knowing that I am able to give back to others by contributing to the 2019 Annual Campaign,” said Sheryl.

Joel Duden, CT Technologist at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, was helped through the Employee Relief Fund when his house was hit by a tornado last year. Supporting colleagues, like Joel, in their time of need is one reason Sheryl continues to participate year after year.

“The 2019 Annual Campaign supports the compassionate and healing ministry we provide at MercyOne Des Moines so that we are able to transform the health of our community, including that of our colleagues,” said Sheryl. “No contribution is too small.”
